Frequently Asked Questions
Browse our frequently asked questions to learn more about how our browser-based conversion tools work.
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
No. PDFChacha uses client-side processing, meaning your files are converted directly within your web browser. They are generally not uploaded to any external server.
Is it safe to convert sensitive documents here?
Yes. Because the processing happens locally on your device, your data remains under your control, reducing the risk associated with uploading sensitive information to the cloud.
What image formats are supported?
We currently support converting JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, BMP, GIF, SVG, and TIFF files into PDF documents.
Will converting an image to PDF reduce its quality?
Generally, no. Our tool wraps your existing image data into a PDF container. Unless you actively choose to compress the images within the tool's settings, the visual quality remains consistent with the original.
Which web browsers are compatible with PDFChacha?
Our tools are designed to work on modern web browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge. Ensure your browser is updated to the latest version for the best performance.
Is there a maximum file size limit?
Because processing happens in your browser, the maximum file size is limited by your device's available RAM rather than an arbitrary server limit. However, processing extremely large files (e.g., hundreds of megabytes) may cause older devices or browsers to crash.
Can I use PDFChacha offline?
Depending on your browser's caching capabilities, you may be able to use the tool offline once the initial page has fully loaded, as the core conversion scripts run locally.
How do I merge multiple images into a single PDF?
Simply drag and drop multiple images into the upload area, or select multiple files from the file picker. You can then rearrange them in your preferred order before clicking 'Convert to PDF'.
Can I use this tool on my smartphone or tablet?
Yes. PDFChacha is fully responsive and supports mobile web browsers on both iOS and Android devices.
Why did my browser crash during conversion?
Browser crashes typically occur when your device runs out of memory (RAM). This can happen if you attempt to convert dozens of high-resolution images simultaneously. We recommend converting files in smaller batches if you encounter this issue.
Does this tool support transparent PNG backgrounds?
PDF specifications handle transparency differently than web images. Typically, transparent backgrounds in PNG files will render over a white background when converted to a standard PDF document.
Can I choose the page size of my PDF?
Yes. Before converting, you can use the options panel to select standard page sizes (such as A4 or US Letter) or choose to have the page size fit the exact dimensions of your image.
Can I adjust the margins on my PDF pages?
Yes. We offer options to apply no margin, small margins, or large margins around your images to suit your formatting needs.
How much does it cost to use PDFChacha?
PDFChacha is completely free to use. We support the maintenance and development of the Website through standard display advertising.
Do I need to install any software or plugins?
No. Our tools require no installations, extensions, or plugins. Everything runs natively within your standard web browser.
How can I reduce the final size of my PDF?
If your resulting PDF is too large, you can enable the 'Compress Images' toggle in the options panel before converting. This will apply a lossy compression algorithm to reduce the file size, though it may slightly reduce image clarity.
Is there a limit to how many files I can convert?
We do not enforce arbitrary usage limits. You can convert as many files as you need, as often as you need.
Do you add watermarks to the converted PDFs?
No. We believe in providing clean, professional output. We do not add watermarks or branding to your converted documents.
Why are my HEIC files taking longer to convert?
HEIC is a complex, proprietary image format developed by Apple. Because it is not natively supported by most web browsers, our tool must perform an intensive local conversion step to process it, which requires more processing time.
Do you store my converted PDFs for future download?
No. Because the conversion happens locally on your device, the final PDF is generated directly onto your machine. We do not have a copy, so if you lose the file, you will need to perform the conversion again.
